Its finally happening!! The Top Gun sequel – Top Gun: Maverick!
Originally the sequel was scheduled to be released 26th June 2020; however due to the Coronavirus pandemic the release date has had to be postponed by 6 months!
Annoying I know, but remember it’s been 34 years since Top Gun was released back in 1986. I don’t know about you, but I seriously can’t wait to see Tom Cruise back in the seat of the fighter jet… this time a F/A-18 Super Hornet.
Top Gun: Maverick, what’s the story?
The official plot synopsis for the sequel states:
“After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.
“When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialised mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt Bradley Bradshaw, call sign ‘Rooster’, the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt Nick Bradshaw, aka ‘Goose’.
“Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.”
According to Paramount Pictures, we are to expect even more intense impressive stunts and flights! In fact the crew worked with the Navy throughout the filming, there’s no CGI here – it’s all real, shot in the rear cockpit of a F/A-18 Hornet!
When is the new release date?
The official new release date is 23rd December 2020 – think of it as a Christmas present, not bad heh?
The sequel was originally set to release 12th July 2019 but was then delayed for a year. It was then to be released 26th June 2020 but due to the COVID-19 outbreak was postponed by 6 months.
