Our Cardiff Experiences

Flying lesson

When you book a flying lesson with us, you have a choice between a 15, 30, or 60-minute session that involves a detailed briefing from one of our qualified pilots before the lesson for you to familiarise yourself with the aircraft controls.

Our flying lessons are a hands-on experience – once you’re airborne, you are then able to take control of the aircraft with pilot supervision and relish the picturesque Welsh countryside and coastline in the popular Cessna 152.

Group flying experiences

We offer aviation experiences for groups of up to 3 people, and you can select your preferred experience duration – we offer a 30 or 60-minute session.

Why not experience the thrill of flying with your loved ones and bring them along for a group experience, which will give you the chance to not only view Cardiff’s stunning scenery from the most incredible vantage point but also take control of your aircraft under supervision.

Chipmunk flying experience

For a nostalgic flying session, you’ll want to book the Chipmunk flight experience. You can choose a 30, 45, or 60-minute session.

You’ll be able to view the city skyline and the stunning coastline in a 1940s original vintage aerobatic plane used for RAF primary training, still sporting the traditional RAF colour scheme.

Common Flight Experince Questions

What type of flights are there?

You can choose either a flight for one person where you will be sat next to your instructor in a two-seat aircraft for either 30 mins or 60 mins. We do also have our flight for two, where you can take a loved one up with you.  One of you will be in the front next to the instructor and the other in the back where can take photos.

Which Welsh landmarks can I expect to see during the flight?

With our aviation experiences, you’re guaranteed a front-seat view of some of the most iconic and stunning views in South Wales, such as Lavernock Point, Cardiff Bay, and the Senedd Welsh Parliament building.

You will also get the chance to soak in Wales’ architectural-historical landmarks, including Cardiff Castle and Caerphilly Castle.

Type of Experiences from our Cardiff location.

Cardiff Flying Lesson for 1 – In this trial flying lesson you’ll be doing much more than just watching your instructor fly you around and seeing the world of Cardiff from above.  You will receive your first 1-1 flying lesson with your own instructor in a two-seat light aircraft. Giving you real, hands-on experience to flying a plane and get you working towards your Pilots Licence!

Cardiff Flight for 2 – Take a friend or loved-one up with you in a four-seat aircraft and admire the historical landmarks of Cardiff from an aerial view. Fly the plane yourself whilst your passenger takes photos to show your friends as proof later.

What will I see during my flight?

There are plenty of sights, landscapes and architecture to admire over Cardiff from an aerial view.
Soar over the notorious Cardiff Bay, BT Stadium, Lavernock Point and Barry Island.  You may even spot the Welsh Parliament Building and the unmistakable red bricked Pierhead across the bay.

What do I need to bring for my flight?

The only thing you’ll need to bring is yourself, that’s the main thing!  We do suggest you bring your Air Experiences voucher.  For the flight itself, bring along a hat and sunglasses, if it’s a good sunny day you’ll need them!

What should I wear for my flight?
It’s usually best to wear jeans and a t-shirt unless it’s a hot day then we suggest shorts. Inside the aircraft it can get quite warm kind of like a greenhouse.
Ladies are best off in trousers, as you’ll have to climb in and out of the cockpit so no heels either. A hat or cap and sunglasses can be useful.
Are spectators welcome?
Friends and family are more than welcome to join to see you get comfortable into your plane, take photos and wave you off. Your guests will then be able to relax in the club house and grab a cuppa tea whilst you go for your flight.
How long are the flight experiences?

This depends on your booking, but they range from 30 to 60 minutes.

We time your flight experience from the moment the wheels start moving, so the length of your experience may vary depending on air traffic, but you will be airborne for most of the duration you select.

What’s the best time of year to go flying in a light aircraft?
This is an all year-round activity as long as the sun is shining! Ideally the summer is best due to the longer days and nicer weather. However, in the depths of winter you can get some of the most beautiful, crisp, blue sky, frosty days where the air is silky smooth. You may even spot snow on top of the Welsh mountains which makes your flight that extra special.
What happens if I’m scared of flying?
Our pilots are experts in their field. Most people tend to feel more relaxed once the pilot has talked them through what will be happening during your flight.
If you are not happy once in the air, your instructor will bring you straight back down in the safest way possible.

Previous Air Experiences customers that have been nervous of flying have said ‘once they have come back down to the ground their fear has gone’. This is because during the flight they are sat next to a highly qualified pilot who talks you through every stage of the flight and reassures you that everything is normal.

How many people can take part in a group flying experience?

Our group flight experiences have a maximum capacity of 3 people, so you can bring along your friends or family to share the experience and make memories. For most of our experiences, the minimum age is 14.

How much piloting will I get to do during a flying lesson?

We offer hands-on lessons, which means you’ll get the most out of your booking and will get to do the majority of the flying after a briefing with a fully qualified pilot.

Once you’re airborne, you can take control of the plane under supervision and make your dream of piloting a plane a reality!
